The dZi Foundation developed targeted programs for each region based on input from each community on how dZi can best support their children's educational needs.
Nepal
We have provided 182 working children with education scholarships with the intent of increasing school attendance and decreasing child labor and child portering. These scholarships are distributed via Parent Teacher Associations in Gudel and Rakha: villages in the Solukhumbu and Khotang districts, respectively. The cost is $45 per child, per year.
Sikkim, India
dZi offers primary education sponsorships to children who would otherwise not be able to afford to go to school. We provide school necessities and a daily hot nutritional mean. Each day ends with an hour-and-a-half of tutoring, providing a safe place for children until their parents return from work. The program now sponsors 260 children at the Charmile, Assam Lingzey, and Pul Bazaar primary schools. The cost is $75 per child, per year.
Since the inception of our Educational Sponsorship program, we have seen a significant increase in attendance, school performance, and overall health of participants.
